LEE CHING MAN (LI JING MAN)

Artist, painter, designer and educator, Lee Ching Man is one of only three Chinese artists I have included in this website. She is truly an artists’ artist and a rare human being. Like the other two artists I have included in this special gallery of Contemporary Chinese Artists, you can know her by knowing her work. Born in Guangzhou, she was educated in Hong Kong. Her individual artistic accomplishments and collaborations on some of the most important and lasting art and design projects in Hong Kong, China, and abroad; and her awards and recognitions, are to numerous to list here. Formerly a student of Lu Shu Kwon, Ching Man was one of the founders of the “One Art Group” of painters with whom she is still active today. Although Ching Man works in very traditional medium, (Chinese Inks on Paper), her work is not derivative. It is a true and honest reflection of an individual artist and a culture in transition. In 1997 I chose her work from over one hundred artists in an exhibition commemorating the return of Hong Kong to China and contacted her about an exhibition. Since then her work continues to grow in demand and recognition for its’ importance. We welcome the opportunity to provide more information on this artist upon request.
